Social security coverage

Social security for students
Are you starting or continuing your studies in higher education? In most cases, you don't need to take any further steps.
The essentials of your health protection as a student:
- Your carte vitale is your social security card. It proves your entitlement to health insurance. Remember to update it at least once a year;
- You must choose and declare an attending physician. From the age of 16, if you do not have a regular doctor, you will be reimbursed less;
- As a student, you are covered by an occupational injury and disease insurance (AT-MP) which covers you during your courses in workshops or laboratories
and internships (under conditions) ;
- If you are a foreign student and will be starting your studies in the 2020 academic year: you must register on www.etuditant-etranger.ameli.fr
Supplementary health insurance
To supplement social security reimbursements, if you do not meet the conditions for complementary universal health coverage (CMU),
you can benefit, provided you meet the means test, from assistance in financing complementary health insurance: payment assistance.
