Greater Avignon

Created in 2001, the Greater Avignon Agglomeration Community is now made up of 15 communes (Avignon, Caumont-sur-Durance, Entraigues-sur-la-Sorgue, Jonquerettes, Les Angles, Le Pontet, Morières-Lès-Avignon, Pujaut, Rochefort-du-Gard, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon, Saze, Sauveterre, Vedène, Velleron and Villeneuve lez Avignon) and will be joined by the communes of Roquemaure and Montfaucon on 1 January 2017.

Since its creation, Grand Avignon has become a key player in our local institutional landscape. Economic development, transport and mobility, urban policy and housing, waste collection and treatment, water management, cultural activities (Opera, Conservatory, l'Autre Scène, Festivals of Avignon and Villeneuve en Scène, among others), preservation of biodiversity and natural resources... Not a single day goes by without the inhabitants benefiting from the services of the Agglomeration Community.

Greater Avignon is involved in the realisation of a territorial project designed to promote the harmonious development of its member communes. By uniting their efforts in this way, the communes benefit from greater financial and human resources to develop their many assets and finance structuring projects.

Promote links between research, business and education

Greater Avignon is fortunate to have a very high density of training and research laboratories compared to the size of the agglomeration. The local authority intends to use this specificity as an asset in terms of economic development to boost its territory and improve the match between the training offer, the needs of the inhabitants and the expectations of companies.

Greater Avignon wants to strengthen the links between the world of research, the University and the business world in order to encourage the innovation capacities of the economic fabric. To achieve these objectives, Greater Avignon intends to support the structuring projects of the University of Avignon - it has thus participated in the financing of the installation of the UFR-ip Sciences, Technologies, Health, on Agroparc in particular, and of the research laboratories -, to anticipate the needs upstream by working with the companies and the training organisations and to contribute to the promotion of the companies of the territory and the jobs they offer.
