I. INFORMATION ON ENROLMENT IN FRENCH COURSES

How to register :

  • This university degree is open to anyone with a high school diploma. This course gives access to student status.
  • The Language Service (SDL) offers levels A1 to B2.
  • Students from outside Europe will need a long-stay student visa.

Registration for the September 2023 session or for the year 2023-2024 should be sent to us by e-mail, at the latest on 30 June 2023.
Registration for the January 2024 session should be sent to us by e-mail, by 1 December 2023 at the latest.

For those who need to apply for a visaIt is recommended that you apply in advance. Indeed, the application must be made in advance, in order to be sure to have your visa and to be able to start the course on the planned date.
Information on applying for a student visa

  • For the pre-registrationIf you wish to register, you must return the completed registration form, dated and signed, accompanied by the required documents (identity card, birth certificate, diploma, rules and regulations) and the deposit. Any incomplete application will be refused.
  •  L'final booking is validated on site. Other documents will be required to finalise your application on arrival (CVEC certificate, visa or residence permit for outside Europe) see page 6. Once these formalities have been completed, you will be able to obtain your student status and card.

II. INFORMATION ON FRENCH COURSES

Proposed levels

From beginner (level A1) to advanced (level B2).
On the first day, you will be assessed by a test which will allow us to place you in a group corresponding to your language level.

A Global scale of CEFR levels allows you to find out the description of the European levels.

Pedagogical approach

The educational objectives are defined according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Use of a textbook and exercise book (provided by the centre).

  • Communicative activities using different media (audio, video, press, etc.)
  • Language learning combined with an active discovery of the city of Avignon and Provence (meetings, interviews, games of chance...)
  • Language learning combined with individual and/or group projects
Contents
Each course focuses on a dominant skill: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Depending on the level, additional courses are offered.

  • Phonetics (up to level B1): 1h30 per week
  • Culture and society: from 1h30 to 3h per week depending on the level
Additional activities

Optional workshops can be offered (film club, theatre, song...)
Students have the opportunity to register for the University's cultural and sports activities.
Advanced students have the possibility to follow certain university courses (history, literature, law etc.) as free auditors (subject to availability). An auditor may attend the courses, but may not take the corresponding exams.

The association Exchanges/ESN is a student association whose objective is to promote the integration of foreign students at the university and to encourage meetings with French students. Throughout the year, it offers tourist and cultural outings and evening events.

Certification and reviews
Students are regularly assessed as part of the degree.
At the end of the semester, they can obtain a transcript of records and a university diploma corresponding to their level (value: 30 ECTS credits).

The University Diploma in French Studies (DUEF) is recognised by all member centres of ADCUEFE.

Hosting
The Language Service can help students to find accommodation in Avignon, in a private residence.

Admission process:

  • This university diploma is open to any person with a secondary studies diploma. It provides a student status.
  • The Languages Service (SDL) offers courses from the A1 to the B2 level.
  • Non-European students must take a long stay student visa.

Registration for the September 2023 session or for the year 2023-2024 must be received by e-mail no later than june 30 2023.
Registration for the January 2024 session
must be received by e-mail no later than December 1st, 2023.

Information on
the Student and Campus Life Contribution (CVEC).

Pre-admission is official on reception of the completed and signed application form, and all the required documents listed in the form (page 6). The final registration is validated on the premises after having filled and signed the " Administrative Registration " (Inscription Administrative) accompanied with all the required documents (and particularly a long-stay visa valid for all the training period for students outside the European Economic Area). After completing all those formalities, you will be granted a student card.


Two academic sessions per year:

– 2023-2024 :

* Session 1: From September to December, 2023 (dates to be determined soon)

* Session 2: From January-February to May, 2024 (dates to be determined soon)

* Session 1 + Session 2 2023-2024 : From September to December, 20223 and from January-February to May, 2024 (dates to be determined soon)

Tuition fees

  • For one semester : 600€ advance payment on pre-registration and the 840€ remainder to be paid during welcome week for a total of 1440€
  • For two semesters : 900€ advance payment on pre-registration and the 540€ remainder to be paid during welcome week of the 1st semester, then 600€ advance payment in November/December and 650€ remainder to be paid during welcome week of the 2nd semester for a total of 2690€

The pre-registration will be valid only after advance payment has been made.

II. INFORMATION ON FRENCH COURSES

Levels
From beginner (level A1) to advanced (level B2).
On the first day, you will take a written evaluation test allowing you to integrate a group according to your language level.

Pedagogical approach
Pedagogical objectives are defined according to the CEFR : Common European Framework of Reference for Language

Use of a handbook and an exercise book provided by the Languages Service.

  • Communicative activities based on different media (audio, video, press...)
  • Language learning associated with an active discovery of the city of Avignon and the Provence area (meetings, interviews, treasure hunt, etc.)
  • Language learning associated with individualized/collective projects

Contents
Each course emphasizes a main competence: oral comprehension, oral production, written comprehension, written production.

According to the levels, complementary courses are proposed:

  • Phonetics (up to B1 level) : 1h30 per week
  • Culture and society : from 1h30 to 3h per week according to the levels

Complementary activities

Optional workshops can be proposed (cinema, theatre, singing...)
Students can also take the sports and culture activities offered by the university. Advanced students may be allowed to attend some standard classes (history, literature, law, etc.) as simple auditors/ free listeners (depending on the number of places available).

Echanges/ESN is a student association whose goal is to favour the integration of foreign students and their meeting with French students. They propose several activities throughout the year, such as touristic and cultural visits, student nights, etc.

The "Diplôme d'Université d'Etudes Françaises" (DUEF) is recognised by all centres member of the ADCUEFE.

Accommodation
The Languages service can help student with finding an accommodation in Avignon, either with a host family, or in a private residence.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE : health measures

Two training sessions per academic year

2023-2024 :

*The welcome week and the placement test are exclusively reserved for students who have already registered.

Rates 2023-2024

  • for one semester : 600€ deposit at the time of pre-registration and 840€ balance to be paid at the time of the week of reception 1440€
  • for two semesters: 900€ deposit at the time of pre-registration and 540€ balance to be paid during the first semester welcome week. Then, 600€ deposit in November-December and 650€ balance to be paid during the welcome week of the second semester 2690€

To be valid, the pre-registration request must be validated by the payment of a deposit.

ATTENTION

The University will be closed for the summer holidays from the evening of 21 July to the evening of 21 August 2023 inclusive.

  • Tuesday: 9am to 12pm,
  • Wednesday: from 9am to 12pm,
  • Thursday: from 2 to 4 pm,
  • Friday: closed to the public
